Hello Blog, I'm back!

Oh, dear Blog, so much time has passed since the last time I've found myself in the mood for sharing my days! December has gone in an augenblick, I've finally managed to spend a week with my family and friends in Italy, but for the rest of the time I've been working a lot, I took pictures around, discovered that I love kilim rugs, etc... here's a pic of the new addition to our living room, thanks to ebay:

today it's his first day in his new home, with my parents... my father has sent me some picture already :)

Kitchen days

I don't know if it's the winter approaching or the fact that with the job I already have to spend many hours away form my home, but lately I've been enjoying more than usual spending time in the kitchen.

We have some plans for "renovating", or at least changing some stuff around and adding a bigger fridge (it arrived this morning! it's red!) and, La Di Da, the oven of my dreams. I've been looking for the perfect oven for years, and I've finally made up my mind, it's a question of days and it will be ready for some hardcore baking session!!!

In order to fulfill my plans a couple of weeks ago I've ordered the two cooking books pictured above:

the Veganomicon: I am reading it even in the bathroom :) it's really as great as I've heard, and I've already tried a few recipes that turned out great, one of them being some amazing roasted brussel sprouts (I am not a big fan of them but I liked the way they turned out!), yesterday I've treated myself with some crepes (super easy to follow, great texture and easy to flip!) and other recipes with tempeh.

I've been eating vegan and enjoying cooking for more than a decade and I really like the fact that this book made me want to try new stuff!

If you already know this book and have tried some recipes please suggest some in the comments :)

BabyCakes: Vegan, (Mostly) Gluten-Free, and (Mostly) Sugar-Free Recipes from New York's Most Talked-About Bakery

well, the long title already says a lot about it. First thing you notice, especially when it comes in a parcel together with the "frugal" veganomicon, is the attention to the image(s) of this New York Babycakes bakery, everything is perfect and patinated and candy-like...maybe a little bit too much for my taste... but yet appealing!I still haven't tried any recipe from this book, as not all of the required ingredients are very handy to get, but I will definitely try some. I like the approach of making vegan baked goods with ingredients that are different from the ones that I usually use, I really want to give a try at their cupcakes, as I find that most of them (see Cupcake Berlin) are just TOO overwhelmingly sweet.

Sure I will post some pictures as soon as I get some done!

I've always loved moving the furniture around and trying new combinations... here are some pictures of our "new" living room that serves also as studio for my boyfriend.

On the first picture you may see two results of my latest obsession: old african masks and figurines... African art has been an inspiration for many artists in the 20th Century, I think this is probably due to the fact that these works of art combine the maximum expressivity with such clean shapes and lines... at the moment I am trying to figure out which are my favourite styles/tribes... I have in mind a serie of Les Monstris inspired by Voodoo art :)

I got back from London on Monday night, and spent the last two days re-organizing my studio and slowly catching up with all the internet stuff :)

I had a marvellous time at Renegade, such great people around that project!

Hello Etsy Weekend

The Hello Etsy conference, "a summit on small business and sustainability", took place last weekend and I was there :)
It's been a fully scheduled two days international experience, in the amazing location of E-Werk, where more than 500 partecipans had the chance to get together and follow some very inspiring lectures about different aspects of starting a small business...
You may watch all of them on etsy's livestream channel, I particularly suggest the mindblowing lecture by Douglas Rushkoff "Program or be programmed"...

that's all for now, I am going to oil the guts of my sewing machine and get some work done, while brainstorming about all the info packed in my head after this weekend :)

Hello dear neglected blog--- I've been away from you for almost two months, never finding the right time or the inspiration for writing a few lines... I've been working at the restaurant for most of the time... but I took a bunch of pictures while I was not there, so here's a selection of the "best moments" of the past two months...

New things around the house:

after 6 years as a full time free lance I am actually enjoying the subtle satisfaction that comes with the secure money from a waitressing job...I got myself a new writing desk, that gorgeous chair, a warm coat for the upcoming winter (not pictured yet), a couple of beautiful porcelain lamps, some additions to my collection of vases, and so on...

As you can see from the above pictures I've been enjoying my free days at their most!
I am really happy about our new living room table, it's so nice to take my breakfast in the morning light and watching movies from the sofa... (we are really into Fringe lately)...
I've also found some pretty things for the Go Go Berlinette shop, but the plastic skull above here is a keeper for me :)
now I am going to cook some samosas for tonight! yay

Rough Weeks

for many different reasons these last two have been some bloody stressing weeks, I had no time to post anything and when I had time my internet connection had the hic-ups.

One of those reasons is that I've started working as a waitress to substitute a friend, and soon this job has taken up all my time. Learning from zero and trying to not let it show can be quite a hard thing to do, especially if you are like me and you are kept awake at night by distressing thoughts involving the easiness with wich I divert my mind and my oh not so great ability of handling stressing situations...

anyway, working 6 days a week helps learning quickly, so now I am starting to find myself more at ease, the only thing is that I still have to find my own pace, especially during the "free" hours, when I should take care of my 2 main activities, sewing monsters and collecting objects for the vintage shop...

Apart from that almost everything's ok.

I have a "pile" of emails to get back to, I am sorry if anyone here is being disappointed by the lack of feedback from me! I'll try to catch up this week!

It looks like a very interesting space, and my Les Monstris are so honoured to be exhibited with the beautiful art-furniture by dutch designer Piet Hein Eek, Tom Claassen and many others great artists :)

Here I am, back in Berlin after 3 weeks of holidays in Italy!

I had such a great time, we went visiting my brother's little farm in the alps: I had the chance to see how it is to live with animals all around us, in their natural habitat...

Then I went to the seaside in Liguria for a few days with my mother and my little grandma...

Now I am back in town and ready for a new start with both my shops, stay tuned for some news this week :)

On the Go

I've been spending the last weeks/days quite away from my computer, when the weather calls it is so nice to spend as much time as possible outdoors...

In the las couple of days my parents have been visiting (they brought me the wonderful group of measuring cups pictured above :), and tomorrow morning we are leaving for 3 weeks in Italy, for some travelling, music festivals, and holidays to the seaside with my Grandma... so I have no idea when will be the next time I will be able to post here...

the shops will be closed for a while, I will be able to list some new items after the 25th of June...

thanks to anyone who will be reading this, I hope you'll enjoy your early summer days... I'll be missing Berlin!

these have been some very pleasant days, filled with home dinners with friends, playing ping pong, working on a custom order for the nicest girl ever (images will come along, for now it's still top secret ;), packing orders for the vintage shop, Austin Lucas' gig on Sunday, taking pictures...

I think one of the things that I like most about instagram is that it keeps me more aware of details and moments around me, it makes things so easy to record and share...

My boyfriend left Berlin this morning for a 2 weeks tour in scandinavia with his band "In Zaire", so here there will be plenty of eating-from-the-pan dinners while listening to cheesy Classic Radio Soundtracks from the kitchen alarm clock... ah ah...

Busy Easter Weekend

I had a very intense weekend around Berlin, my boyfriend's parents were visiting, so we wore our most comfortable shoes and went around the city like real tourists :)
my favourite places were the Botanischer Garten and the amazing Pergamon Museum!!!
I hope you all had a grea time, too!
I am still slowly catching up with all the emails, comments and such, please be patient :)

Finally I'm back! slowly catching up with all the emails and such...
I had a wonderful time in Italy, I managed to spend some real quality time with my family, up in the mountains where we have a cabin for the holidays. Up there my brother is starting his own "shepherd job", and next time I will be there in June there will be cows, chickens and goats!!!
I experienced rather extreme situations, from the cabin to the Salone del Mobile in Milan (hip design fair)... Had a great time in my former city, Pavia...
it really went so quick, but now I am happy to be back in Berlin, everywhere now is greener and leafier, almost summer weather...

Springy Shop Update

I've been wanting to change the photo styling for a while, to get a more uniform feeling, so i decided to try with this baby blue background, I think it gives a pretty fresh springy mood... only it's a bit difficult to get the same light/colour/exposition, so now the shop it rather a patchwork of baby blues :/

uh, rememer that there is a Spring Sale going on, some of the white porcelain vases have been reduced!

The Perfect Thrifting Weekend (To Say Nothing Of The Cold)

Oh, yes indeed, it's been a glorious thrifting weekend! Despite the cold I catched a few days ago, I went around Berlin, literally east-south-west-north, all the way with my faithful rucksack and 3 layers of upper clothes!

I think I really needed that good feeling of finding something that makes your heart flutter... Being that we are postponing the trip to Japan, I am currently a bit less tight on my budget, plus, I really felt the need to "compensate" that postponed satisfaction, you know what I mean?

So here I am, my back and my legs hurt just like the day after p.e. at school and a dripping nose, but I have to say that am very happy about all of my findings!

some things will stay with me, such as the Sonor vibraphone and the red bag in the second pic, or the black laced shoes in the last picture (2nd hand, barely used, fit me like a glove: 2€ !!!score!!!)...

I still have to decide the "order of appearance" in the Go Go Berlinette shop for all these items, plus I am doing some researches (thanks dear Pottery and Glass forum!), but I am going to list a couple new every day, so stay tuned if you've seen something you like!

these are some pictures I took in the last couple of days...mostly spent outside :)

the first one is my small collection of wall hangings placed on the long wall of my hallway... the last piece I bought is the tiny plaster head in the wooden "box" on the left. The head is as big as my thumb and carefully detailed, such a tiny treasure!

the second picture is from a walk we took today at Weissensee, north East of Berlin. it was very beautiful and quiet, I can't wait to go back there once everything will be greener and warmer!!

right before going to Weissensee I was around Boxhagener Platz and with much surprise I bumped into Gemma!! so nice to meet her by chance and having a hot dog together with our boyfriends and her Mop :)

the third picture speaks for itself, I was in Prenzlauerberg, I think the dog belongs to the owner of the shop, "Oliv", the heaven of enamelware... I think it is in Pappelallee.

The last two pictures are from last sunday, the first a beautiful villa near Treptower park, the latter is yours truly while eating a great falafel at Mamo, in Warschauer strasse. Definitely worth trying, and 100% vegan!

Good Starts

this morning I woke up with a lot of energy and willing to roll all day, so many things to do: house works, laundry, shipping orders, making stuff, listing new itelms, cooking lasagne (I am going to start cooking as soon as I finish this post...)

I hope this feeling lasts as long as possible, this is my favourite time of the year and I want to enjoy every minute of it!

I am spending many hours a day hooked to the news about Japan... what happened it's devastating and I'm feeling much closer to this beautiful country since we still have plans to go there in mid April...
it seems so absurd now thinking about cherry blossoms...

I am selling this amazing Gustavsberg bowl with the Pynta decor by Stig Lindberg

I didn't know it was so rare, until I looked for some on ebay and there was no way of finding an example... it's an hardly seen decor probably because it was produced only for a short period of time (1962-'65), so not so many pieces reached our days.

It has different kitchen-related object all around in this mid-century style so colourful and fresh that is the distinctive touch of Lindberg :)

I NEED this book!

I love japanese craft books, even though most of the times the style is a bit to girlish for my taste.

BUT this one is just what I was looking for!

yes: I wish they had it still in stock...

mmmmh, lately another idea is climbing on the top of my wish list... and is a Big One: I am dreaming of having a little dog. YES. I am more of a cat person, but being that my boyfriend is allergic to cats I may have to forget about having them around the house... so the idea of having a small dog is taking place into my mind, but there are so many things to take into consideration... number one being that the aforementioned boyfriend is more prone to big dogs with short hair, while me, I'd love to have some fluffy hairy small dog (boys, are we stereotypes!)

so for now I like to daydream about having a Papillon or a Cavalier to take care of and go out with for walks... something like in this beautiful painting by Jose Franky the Great:

Apart from these ramblings, around here there are wide smiles going on because in the past days some things "started "by me have reached other destinations... for example this vase has found a perfect home, Palomino has been featured here and here in the same day, and the Soft Totems are on PLUSH YOU! blog :) YAY!

HOORAY for the SOFT TOTEMS!

so, here they are, the SOFT TOTEMS #3, #4, and #5!!

It took me quite a long time to finish working on them, but I am yeah-happy with the results! As I've probably already explained, creating the face for my characters is what I enjoy most of the process, so coming up with this concept meant focusing on my favorite features, working with different textures and techniques... I love making the fringes and playing with different colours of yarn, and I already have many ideas about details for the next that will come soon!

now they are in the shop and ready to hang on your wall!

this morning at 10 a.m. I had to collect an item I won on ebay, and despite the -11C° it was the perfect day for wandering around an unknown neighborhood! I didn't expected Karlshorst to be that appealing to my taste! there are so many beautiful early '900 villas, a mysterious bike path leading to the woods, small shops selling a little bit of everything... it is quite far away from my usual wanderings, but probably with such a house (peek a random one up here in the pics) I wouldn't mind living a bit outside from the centre of Berlin. I just can't wait to go back there after all the trees will become leafy and green, I am sure I will be speechless then!

the last two pictures are from Karl Marx Allee, just round the corner from my place. I was very happy to see the first outdoors tables of the season, it's still bloody cold, but sitting in the sun for 5 minutes is a real pleasure!

well, as soon as I got home I've burnt my tongue with a super hot tea (my new favourite: rooibos marzipan and cinnamon, yu-my!) and now I feel much better...

wooooooooo-hoooooooooo, today while I was baking some chocolate chips cookies the postman(woman) rang and there was something for me... a small parcel from Japan, by Mogu!!!

with so many little big surprises inside, it really made my day :D

I've been working all day taking pictures and listing for the shop update over at Go Go Berlinette, there are lots of non-pottery items and yet more to come in the next days! Even a "magic stick" with plenty of small bells! Stay tuned!

I was very happy to see that so many people wrote very nice comments about my last post and the totems: thank you everybody! and this week my les monstris are included in very nice treasuries: this, this, this, this ... :)

I am SO excited I can't even describe it with words, but I'll try :)

We've finally booked our flights to Japan! we will be in Tokyo from the 12th until the 24th of April...

the picture up above has been taken from a photoboot right after coming out from the travel agency :)

the second one is my kitchen in gray Friedrichshain half an hour ago, and I don't know what it is about it, but I get some kind of japanese feeling just looking at it...

right now I am looking for accomodation and all that practical stuff... If you've been/live there and you have some suggestions, I will be happy to read it!

See? lately I've been using my phone more than my real camera... discovered instagram ...and I am already addicted to it like a 16 year old kid... with that app it's so easy to take decent pictures that I almost feel guilty :) (by the way I am @superninon also over there if you want to have a look and join)

1st picture: there you go, some of the cutest fleamarkets finds of today!!! aren't they marvellous? and there will be some more marvels over at Go Go Berlinette next week!
2nd: it's Misako Mimoko's calendar and a Cheburashka postcard (a gift from my boyfriend)
3rd: taken just before getting to the fleamarket in Schoeneberg, it was freezing!
4th: in pure Wedding style: "no piss" signs made by children who have to "share" the park with some drunk people... I may have to go back to take more pictures of those little painted faces, who were supposed to look really disgusted... priceless!
5th: ...when you are at home alone you are not always in the mood for cooking... I love those Syrup Waffeln for "supper"!

coral red days

here are a few pictures of the new curtains I've made yesterday for our living room.. I instantly fell in love with that coral red checkered fabric!

I am being at home alone for the next couple of weeks, my boy is on tour in the uk (ah-ehm, I hope he'll like the new curtains when he'll get back home... ;)

I am feeling a bit clumsy and weird today, woken up at dawn by a neighbor that was screaming like crazy at her little kid, then I had a terrible nightmare where my street and house got bombed for some reason, and I had lost my mermory and there were strangers inside my apartment... baaaad vibes...

anyway, to cheer me up tonigt I will cook myself a nice meal and then whatch many episodes of The It Crowd, a new (to me) british comedy serie that crackes me up A LOT, discovered thanks to zigsma (check out her blog!). Last night I watched "Away we go" by Sam Mendes, written by Dave Eggers and his wife Vendela Vida, and enjoyed every single minute of it!

Uh, one of our favourite bloggers just moved to Berlin! check out her beatiful pictures of the city, that lately is being very warm, almost all the snow/ice is gone! there is already a subtle spring feeling, unbelievable!

new beginnings (part II)

so, as promised, here are a few pictures of freshly adjusted studio, getting fuller and messier everyday... before my "computer HQ" was in the living room, now partially used by my boyfriend as music studio. Today I've also made these new yellow and white curtains, they are much brighter that the ones I had previously, and this is a welcome PLUS during the winter days! Yesterday I had to set up a new corner for taking the pictures for the vintage shop with artificial light. Now it's set on the left side of my desk, just a wide stripe of brown paper taped to the wall with an halogen ikea-ugly lamp, here you can see the results of the pictures that I re-took, pretty impressive with such poor material, uh?

here are a few treats/books that I got myself for xmas :)

and, last but not least, today it's my grandma's 84th birthday! she is such a joker and with the age she is enjoying even more making us all laugh with her rough manners :)

After a couple of weeks away from the computer I am slowly catching up with all the internet things, today I've been listing some new vases on Go Go Berlinette, I am in loooove with the first one! and, as you can see, I have some new string shelves in my studio, great for displaying and taking pictures of my vintage objects for the shop that are starting to take up quite a lot of space!

I had to move around some furniture around the house, tomorrow I will take some pictures of the new adjustments and post some pictures!

I hope you had a very very good time during the holidays, I did!

ta-daaaaa! here I am with a quick post about the opening of the exhibition yesterday night at Staalplaat Store! I had a very good time and it's been a nice chance to see a few friends I haven't seen in a while!
So that's what I've been busy with in the last weeks... I'm very happy with my first XL piece, the TOTEM is as tall as me! now I am looking forward to some "relaxing" (a-ehm) days with the family, and then finally January, a month without deadlines, hurrà!

Oh, boy! some busy weeks here, sorry I've been away from this blog lately, but it's being one of those periods that makes me panic as soon as I have a look at my TO DO list, where every little thing seems like an ocean to cross (yes, I'm a drama queen...)

So here's in picture what I've been surrounding myself with in the past two weeks:

"discovered" the hipstamatic app and still not tired of it ;)

I somehow started my collection of rug beaters, I've always liked the twirling nots of them and I think they look great hung on a wall. I've never thought about their s/m aspect until I googled them o__o uoah! Anyway I am amazed by all the variations of their shapes!

One of the most important things is that I've been working on some special Les Monstris that are now available in one of my favorite galleries here in Berlin: BONGOUT!!! here they are:

For the rest of the time I've been sleeping, a lot, almost with the feeling of hybernation: a hard fight against the coldest week so far (-15°C, first big snowfall and it's only the beginning...) and all the things that need do be done... long hours have been occupied by researching items for my vintage shop, I have updated the shop today with this delightful small collection of Bitossi Rimini Blu pottery (too bad the cute rooster had been decapitated and repaired, so I am not listing it, just bought it as a "research item"), then there is a Scheurich trio in pure Mid-century modern shapes, and a small group of beautiful matte porcelain vases (not all of them listed yet, coming soon)

so, that's all for now, in the next days I'll be working on the pieces for my exhibition (more info coming soon!)

OH! don't forget that this weekend in N.Y. is Luv-able&Hug-able time at Hanahou Gallery!! I will be there in form of 2 softies and 3 brooches :)

It's been raining all day in Berlin, but being that we are brave we defied the first cold and wet weather to go to the post office (and later to Smart Deli for a warming Tofu Miso as a reward :)
This morning I've listed some new items in ninon's handmade shop! there are 3 new Les Monstris and 2 Cat Zippered Pouches! the teal one with the Aybobo face has sold already! I love these zippered pouches because the face is the funniest part of making my characters, and yet they are something useful!
On our way back home, carrying a bag of organic groceries for cooking what we call the our Deutsch Meal (vegan wurst, mustard, cornichons, potatoes for salad) we came across a record store were we found this record by Glenn Gould at a very nice price:

Sunday morning I was listening to the slower version of the Variations at 8.30 a.m. while going to some fleamarkets, and the deserted streets plus the music were enough to get that feeling of being in a movie...

I can't remember the name of this pattern right now... but isn't it gorgeous all like that? just perfect!

I have one like this in okra, it will probably pop up in the shop very soon!

and today I got a little package from Italy, with my new customized oven glove by POLLAZ!!! I love it! and it is such a nice feeling to own something that's been handmade by a friend :D

woah have I been busy the last couple of weeks! sorry to neglect you dear blog o'mine... but here I am with a bunch of pictures taken around the house, today was endlich the first sunny day in weeks and there was a beautiful light...
I managed to list two new Les Monstris in the shop, GUILLAUME AYBOBO and WALLY BLUETIPPEN !!!
I've finally an account on Pinterest! check it out, at the moment there is still not much collected yet, but I think it will become a usefull tool for inspiration! be careful 'cause it's pretty addictive and it sucks up yout time while you don't even notice...

I've been "secretly" working on the ensemble of the "Little Friends", some petit creatures for my Schmancy Exclusive, a serie of plushies created for Kristen, the Queen Of Plush You :)

Here are a few pictures of things that I like today! the first one is a small grouping of little precious thing I got in the past two days. I've found the book in a box on the pavement, "zu verschenken" said the sign (for free), I took it up and I felt it was mine already :) the pattern, the color, the title (it means the Little Friends)***!

The two porcelain coffee cups are so fragile to the touch... infact they are all cracked :( but they still do a nice job as candleholders!

and the last picture is a coat I've been wishlisting... I will attempt to make for myself a vegan version of something like it, in navy blue fleece... we'll see....

These are the last vases listed on Go Go Berlinette! aren't they amazing all grouped together? They are all examples of german porcelain from the 60s-70s.

I enjoy the fact that they are at the opposite extreme from West German pottery from the same period , which is instead so colorful and kitschy (my humble example here, just to get the idea). Still such interesting surfaces and delicate plays with light (see Op Art)

When I am at home alone I am not able to sit at the kitchen table to eat. Lately I've been taking all my meals in front of the computer. My mother called me on skype the other night while I was eating gnocchi with salsa di noci: she saw what I was doing and disapproved it with her motherly way :)

Yesterday I've found some great old books in two bookshops in Karl-Marx-Allee!

While doing some research on the net about the illustrators of the two children books (Die Hochzeit des Pfaus, illustrated by Klaus Ensikat, 1972; Doctor Squash The Doll Doctor illustrated by J.P. Miller, 1952) I've found this two great sites:

Now I have to get ready to go out: tonight I am going to the opening of the 7. Berliner Kunstsalon, some of my Les Monstris will be exhibited there at the stand of the CELL63 Gallery, along with so many great artists, wo hooo!

I am going to work on some softies and zip pouches in the next days, my boyfriend is leaving again for a 3 weeks tour around Europe with his band In Zaire, I will work on some new projects and I will have plenty of time to do that :)

I've just added a few things to my vintage shop! I never thought that taking pictures of "old objects" could be so fun! I am really enjoying it...
